There always seems to be new information circulating about the latest and greatest work-out programs. With the litany of routines to choose from, it can be hard to know which one is best. Well, I have great news for you, the best exercise program is the one you actually do.
Too often we can get discouraged by our lack of motivation in a particular area of exercise. Maybe you find the gym boring, or running’s just not your style. I am a firm believer that there is an activity out there for everyone. The key to success is
not in how much weight you can lift or the distance you can run, but with the consistency in which you perform your chosen activity. On that note, let’s take a look at some less conventional ways to burn calories and meet your health goals.
1) Dancing – There are many styles of dance to choose from and many, many calories to be burned. You can do these online from the less embarrassing safety of your own home. Remember, kitchen dance parties count too!
2) Walking your dog – (or a friend’s dog) – If you have a dog this is a no-brainer; however, you can challenge yourself by choosing routes that have more hills than you’re used to. While you’re at it, why not incorporate some short sprints into the walk? Studies show that hill sprints have huge health benefits.
3) Bike to work – You know the saying, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”. In a city with more bike lanes than you know what to do with, ditching your car in lieu of a bike has never been easier. As well as experiencing huge physical benefits, biking has also shown to boost mental health and increase cognitive function.
